When you look at a spreadsheet of data, itâs easy to just see cold digits on a screen. But here at RTR Spay and Neuter, every single number represents a wagging tail, a healthier island pet, and a community taking a massive leap forward.
Weâve been looking back at our journey since August 2023, and the growth is nothing short of breathtaking.

The Power of Progress: Tracking Our Milestones
Just a short time ago, we were celebrating hitting a milestone of 1,393 successful procedures. But thanks to our incredible veterinary teams, local partners like The Magic Mission, and an unstoppable army of volunteers, our impact has skyrocketed.
1,919 Total Surgeries:Â Between August 2023 and May 2026, we have officially sterilized nearly 2,000 island dogs and cats.
526 Reasons to Celebrate:Â Our historic May clinic alone brought in a record-breaking 526 animals across a frantic, beautiful three-day stretch spanning two islands.
The Ripple Effect of Prevention
Why do these numbers make our hearts beat a little faster? Because of the compound math of animal welfare. Spaying and neutering isn't just about the pet on the table today; itâs about the hundreds of animals who will never have to face a life of hunger, disease, or neglect on the streets.
According to the ASPCA, roughly 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. shelters every year due to uncontrolled breeding. On an island like RoatĂĄn, without intervention, that overpopulation pressure hits vulnerable stray communities hard.
By crossing the threshold of 1,919 procedures, our community has effectively prevented tens of thousands of unwanted litters over the next few generations. We are fundamentally shifting the story from one of survival to one of care, transforming former "dumpster divers" into
beloved couch surfers.
The Hearts Behind the Statistics
None of this happens in a vacuum. Behind every single digit is a team of international vets and an amazing team of volunteers who arrive before sunrise, local neighbors who comfort nervous pets in line, and donors who fund the clinic supplies that make free and affordable clinics possible.
Every clinic day feels less like a medical event and more like a celebration of life. Thank you for being part of this beautiful ripple effect. Weâre just getting started!
