RTR Spay and Neuter isn’t just helping animals today — it’s reshaping the future of Roatán. With 1,393 animals sterilized in the last 3 years, the ripple effect is massive, measurable, and life‑changing for the entire island.
✨ Immediate Impact: The First Year

Assuming half of the animals sterilized were female (~696 females):
Each female = 2 litters/year
4–6 surviving offspring per litter
Births prevented in Year One:
Low estimate: 5,568
High estimate: 8,352
Thousands of puppies and kittens who would have been born into hardship… simply never were.
✨ The 3‑Year Ripple Effect

This is where prevention becomes powerful. Animal welfare data shows that one unspayed female and her offspring can produce tens of thousands of descendants over just a few years.
Even accounting for Roatán’s lower survival rates, RTR’s 1,393 surgeries have prevented:
25,000–40,000 animals from being born over a three‑year period.
That’s fewer animals suffering on the streets, fewer litters for rescuers to scramble to save, and healthier, safer communities across the island.
✨ Why It Matters
RTR’s work directly reduces:
Overpopulation
Disease spread
Roaming and fighting
Abandonment
Pressure on rescuers and shelters
And it increases:
Healthier pets
Safer neighborhoods
Stronger families
A more compassionate Roatán
✨ The Bottom Line
1,393 surgeries = 40,000 lives changed before they even began. This is the power of prevention.
This is the impact of RTR Spay and Neuter.
With the upcoming clinic in May, we plan on spaying and neutering at 120 to 150 animals a day, over a 3 day period. As it takes a village, we encourage you to follow and share our story with your family and friends.
