So here is how you can help a dog that is choking on any small object.Ā Hopefully you will never have to go through this. It is rare, but just in case learning this technique will one day save your dogās life.
Ā
Dog Heimlich Maneuver
Remove any collars that are around your dogsā neck.
Examine in the dogsā mouth to make sure that there isnāt anything that you would be able to pull out by hand.
Examine the gums and make sure that they are pink not blue. If they are blue this means the animal isnāt getting any oxygen and that they are choking.
Do not blindly place your hand down the dogās throat. There are small bones that are in the back of their tongues that you might mistake for something they are choking on.
Here is a photo to show exactly how you should perform the K9 First Aid - Heimlich Maneuver. Once you have removed the object reach out to your veterinarian immediately for further instructions.
