Over the past 2 years, we have truly rescued the rescue. Many of those animals have found loving homes across the United States and Canada, while others have been adopted right here in Roatan. Their happy endings are proof of what compassion and commitment can achieve.
Throughout this journey, hundreds of donors, supporters, volunteers, and networks came together to help us secure these animals' safety before the rescue was evicted from its property. That effort gave rise to a new mission—one focused on tackling the island’s overpopulation crisis, which is the root cause of so many unwanted animals.
Our vision is to create a Roatan where overcrowded rescues are no longer needed—where animals are embraced by families and communities rather than suffering from neglect, starvation, disease, or injury.
So far, we have had 3 successful spay and neuter clinics in the last 2 years, spaying and neutering 900 animals! That's THOUSANDS of animals that will never be born on the streets to fend for themselves. Ultimately, we are planning on 2 clinics a year.
Just to put it into perspective. One un-spayed female and her offspring can produce a staggering number of puppies in just a few years. For example, one pair of un-spayed/un-neutered dogs and their offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in just six years. That's a staggering number!
RTR Spay and Neuter is a non-profit organization under Roatan Animal Support Inc. a 501(c)(3). Our mission is dedicated to animal welfare by fostering strategic partnerships with International veterinary brigades, animal welfare organizations, and local veterinarians. Our ultimate goal is to reduce stray dog and feral cat overpopulation through affordable or free spay and neuter campaigns.
